Machine design
Objectives of the class
The purpose of this course is to develop an understanding of the flow of mechanical design and a sense of what is necessary for the development of mechanical design through an explanation of the design techniques of individual machine elements and parts. Specific objectives are to provide an overview of fit, machinable design, safety factors, design techniques using machine elements (bearings, gears, shafts, screws), electric motor selection, and machine safety. Learn the basics for this.
Key words for the class
Fittings, electric motors, screws, shafts and bearings design, gear design, strength design, material selection, standardization, safety factor, reliability design
Content
In principle, lessons are taught in the order of the textbook.
Teaching methods
- Lectures and quizzes will be given. Attendance will be strictly monitored by a variety of means. If attendance is determined to be inadequate, it will not be allowed regardless of the grade of the final exam or quiz. Attendance for at least 2/3 of the total number of lecture days (including final exams) is the minimum requirement.
- Students are required to read through the section in question beforehand to prepare for the course. In addition, for some subjects, there will be a quiz in the next class period to measure the students' achievement. Students are required to review the content of the week's lessons.
